To understand the molecular mechanisms regulating angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels from existing blood system) we have just characterize the expression of BMP9 and shows that this molecule is produced in the liver. We establish that BMP9 circulates in an inactive and active form, and that the latter maintains the endothelial cells in a quiescent form.
