Personalized bone repair for tomorrow’s medicine (BOA project)

Published on 17 July 2023

Context:
In close collaboration with Annecy Regional Hospital, the service of maxillo-facial surgery and CIC-IT Bordeaux (Center for Clinical Investigation – Technological Innovation, specialized in medical devices), the Bioactive bOne repAir (BOA) (supported by Fondation Recherche Médicale) project aims to translate bioactive medical devices to human clinics using an innovative 3D-printed scaffold and a bioactive surface coating to trigger bone repair. To date, we already obtained proof of concepts in small animals, in pigs for the repair of very large mandibular bone defect of 12 cm3[2] and in sheeps for the repair of long bone defects [3] using polymer-based medical devices. The objective of the present project funded by FRM (Fondation Recherche Medicale) is to prepare custom-made scaffolds for the first implantation in human.

Your mission:
You will contribute to all steps of the fabrication process of the 3D printed implant coated with the biomimetic film. You will elaborate biomaterials following the management and quality system in view of the future clinicial trial that will be conducted at CHR Annecy Genevois. You will be working in close collaboration with the project partners (U1209 IAB, CHR Annecy Genevois, CIC-IT Bordeaux, the providers and the subcontractors).

Your profile:
You have a degree in biomedical/ biotechnology or mechanical engineering and you are willing to work in a multidisciplinary environment (biomaterial scientists, bioengineer, clinicians and quality engineer). Working language is mainly French but the team meetings are in English. Management of quality systems for the production will be an important asset. Possibility to simultaneously register to PhD programm at EDISCE doctoral school at UGA, in case you are interested.

Supervisors:
U1292 Biosanté-BRM team (Dr. Catherine Picart & Paul Machillot), work in close collaboration with CHANGE (Prof Georges BETTEGA) and CIC-IT Bordeaux (Marlène DURAND)
